Meet Steve

Steve Botsford

I was born and raised in Illinois with the same dream a lot of Midwestern kids grow up with, playing football at Notre Dame. After starting at Indiana University to improve my grades, I transferred to Notre Dame and earned a spot as a walk-on, spending two seasons on the football team.

After graduation, I came home to learn my family’s small business from the ground up. Later, I served on the legislative staff for Congressman Tony Cárdenas (D-CA), where I wrote bills ranging from helping American workers move for better jobs to protecting college athletes.

I went on to earn a Master’s in Applied Economics from Georgetown and an M.B.A. from Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management while working full time in the finance industry. In 2023, I ran for Chicago City Council on a platform of safer streets and more affordable housing. When I lost that race, I thought I’d never run again.

But then the Democratic establishment fumbled the 2024 election, and we were forced to live under another four years of Donald Trump. I couldn’t sit back and watch Washington insiders keep leading the country in the wrong direction. That’s why I’m running for the U.S. Senate, to fight for working families, to make America more affordable, and to build a future we can be proud of.

Lets win this thing!
